I love getting calls from Tomas to go shoot, or hang out.. mostly because it involves hanging out with him and Chris, and it usually also involves taking a photo at a fun spot that nobody else has skated yet, or thought of skating. This is one of those spots, a new one I suppose. Tomas is doing a wallie 5-0 pivot to regular, we also wrote our names in the ground with chalk. How fun.
Tonight I met up with Val a fitness model from the area to do some photos, we shot a lot of different looks and came out with some great photos, Emmanuelle did the make up, all in all the evening in the studio was one of the more fun ones, it’s always nice to shoot with someone fun.
Another photo from last week, I hadn’t gotten out in quite a while, but I got 4 pretty solid shots this day, this one is of Keith doing a back heel over the pylon, off the ledge from the right. Kind of confusing but I still like it.
Tomas always has cool spots and cool stuff to skate. Making the most out of a shoe repair sign, while ironically destroying his shoes, Tomas did a bunch of wallies until clipping on the top and landing on his head. Too bad I don’t have a frame of that.
Another shot from Miami, this was one of my favourite places to shoot, mostly because we got to go swimming right before, and right after (or could it be all the scantily clad women walking by). This is in south Beach and the beach is directly behind those palm trees. Aaron actually threw this one down in like 10 tries.. what am I saying “actually” for. Aaron OBVIOUSLY threw this one down in less than 10 tries cause he brings the hammer with him everywhere we go.
This is a photo from a shoot I did recently with some friends that I haven’t seen in a long time. It was fun catching up with them, it seems like the last time we hung out they had just released their album 10 good reasons to move and they’re already releasing another one.. time flies when you’re not paying attention. We shot this photo for their upcoming album, you can check out some of the songs on their myspace.
I shot this photo of Cassandra about 2 weeks ago, the whole shoot didn’t go that well, it was a million degrees outside, the place we wanted to shoot was barricaded and the wind was having it’s way with my umbrellas. So I shot this with “barebulb” speedlights aka ghetto barebulb and had Cassandra walking towards me. The backdrop is actually the grey sky, make up was done by Emmanuelle Charlebois. Hair by Michelle Rivest.
I’ve been holding onto this shot for a few months, we shot it back in March or April just after the snow melted. It was supposed to be a re-shoot for Keith doing a back tail, but then Marty was doing it switch. I used my Bronica SQ-A with a 150mm lens hoping to really bring the parliament buildings into the photo, it would probably work better with the 220mm lens, but I don’t own one. Still, I really like the lighting and loose comp on this one.
So Alternative Press was nice enough to give me a ticket and photopass to Warped Tour in Montreal this year (despite the fact that I haven’t shot a band in probably 3 years). I took advantage and saw a bunch of bands I’ve never heard of before. I had to duck out a bit early, but this is a photo off the singer from Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.. i think.
We skated this ditch just outside Miami while we were down there, it was a sweet afternoon of cruising the ditch, getting wicked sunburns, and shooting into the sun.
Don’t be fooled this trick is damn hard, there’s rebar sticking out of the top of that ledge as well, but Charlie was laying them down with smooth style.
